Joel R. Bryant, Esq.

Joel R. Bryant was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and grew up in Littleton, Colorado. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance. While at Arizona State, Mr. Bryant received several student achievement awards including the prestigious Wall Street Journal Outstanding Business Student Award. Following that, he attended the University of San Diego School of Law and obtained his Juris Doctor degree. In addition to graduating in the top tier of his class, Mr. Bryant was active and successful in the moot court program at the University of San Diego.

Prior to joining Perkins & Miltner, LLP, Mr. Bryant was an associate with the law firm of Post, Kirby, Noonan & Sweat and thereafter with the law firm of Corona, Balestreri & Ramseyer, where his practice focused on construction litigation, real estate and business litigation. Mr. Bryant joined Perkins & Miltner, LLP in May, 1994. Mr. Bryant became a partner in the firm in March, 1998.

In addition to the traditional construction and business litigation performed at Perkins & Miltner, LLP, Mr. Bryant has expanded his practice to include tort litigation, including "Elder Abuse" and personal injury actions. The Elder Abuse actions typically involve litigation against a nursing home, a home health care provider, a caretaker, or a fiduciary (person in position of trust). These actions are based on neglect, intentional misconduct, fraud or breach of fiduciary duty. Mr. Bryant is admitted to practice law before all of the California state courts and many federal courts, including the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California, U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.

During his professional career, Mr. Bryant has been a member of the San Diego County Bar Association (Elder Law and Litigation Sections), the American Bar Association (Litigation Section), Consumer Attorneys of San Diego, American Business Trial Lawyers Association and the San Diego Barrister's Club. Mr. Bryant was a member of the Board of Directors of the Barrister's Club in 1993 and served as President during 1994. Mr. Bryant is currently a member of the Awards Committee of the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego as well.

Mr. Bryant is actively involved in legal issues confronting America's elderly population. He is on the board of directors of the Senior Community Centers, a charitable organization which provides food, housing and social services to seniors to help maintain their independence. Mr. Bryant is also a consultant to the San Diego Fiduciary Abuse Specialist Team (FAST), a team of consultants from the private and public sector whose mission is to increase the effectiveness of elder financial abuse reporting and prosecution and to increase public awareness of the problem through education. Mr. Bryant is the chairperson of the FAST Legislative Committee and a member of the Steering Committee. Mr. Bryant is also a frequent lecturer regarding senior legal issues such as Financial Elder Abuse and Medical Elder Abuse.
